QtOctave is a front-end for Octave. Octave is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations like Matlab. QtOctave is a pleasant made-easy Octave GUI.

Besides offering an attractive front-end to GNU Octave, an environment for numerical computation highly compatible with MATLAB, QtOctave currently also features matrix data entry and display and some GUI shortcuts to frequently used Octave functions. It also offers access in place to Octave's HTML documentation with octave3.0-htmldoc.

VYM (View Your Mind) is a tool to generate and manipulate maps which show your thoughts. Such maps can help you to improve your creativity and effectivity. You can use them for time management, to organize tasks, to get an overview over complex contexts, to sort your ideas etc.

Maps can be drawn by hand on paper or a flip chart and help to structure your thoughs. While a tree like structure like shown on this page can be drawn by hand or any drawing software vym offers much more features to work with such maps.

vym is not another drawing software, but a tool to store and modify information in an intuitive way. For example you can reorder parts of the map by pressing a key or add various information like a complete email by a simple mouse click.

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

Data analysis and scientific plotting

Qtiplot is a fully fledged plotting software similar to the OriginLab Origin software (See OriginLab [originlab.com] for more informations about Origin).

It can make two and three dimensional plots of publication quality, both from datasets and functions. It can do non-linear fitting and multi-peak fitting.
